This is one of the most enjoyable books I have ever read. I loved the blend of fictitious and real people and events...and learned a lot about Handel, London in the early 1700's, street urchins (loved the character 'Pack Rat'), Debtor's Prisons...hated reaching the end of the book. I read it during the Easter season, and watched the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra on Temple Square performing the entire Messiah during that time, too...a wonderful two weeks!
THis is a great book. The story needed to be told. It is touching. I realized that the author used the word "shadow" too many times. It became annoying. I didn't love the secondary stories as they were sappy, but I love the historical fiction. I think the story of Handel is one of the most amazing human experiences ever recorded, and the author did a great job getting his message across. Good book.
I thought this book was amazing! I liked how the author wove the characters into the plot. I felt it was very well written and thought out. After I read it, I went to the local library and looked up some of the factual accounts about Handel. I have recommended this book to my book club. We are reading it in March for discussion. There is a trailer on it which is also very good. I read the book during December which is also when I attend a local production of "The Messiah" so that made it even move meaningful. My thanks to Mr. Featherstone!.
This book ranks in my Top Ten, without a doubt. Maybe even my Top Five. I loved how it was written. It had enough description that I now feel like I've seen the movie, even though it was only in my mind.
The type size was too small to read. The e-book was much better
Loved this book. Loved the descriptive prose that as it described situations throughout. Enjoyed the story once I got to where the characters began to interact. I would recommend this highly to anyone who enjoys music.
Everyone should read this book! It message is powerful and inspiring.
Love this story. Hope it gets made into a movie.
