I've been interested in the Earhart mystery for as long as I can remember. Following TIGHAR's exploits to see what they might come up with wore thin years ago. They've been to Gardner Island many times. Surely they would have found something of the Electra, Earhart, or Noonan by now, if anything was there? In fairness, I must agree with reviewers who note that Mike Campbell does not come across as objective. In fact, he rants here and again and has no patience with some of the other Earhart researchers. But as to the evidence, Campbell seems to me a man who has been convinced by the preponderance of evidence he presents. That's far different from someone who starts with a pet theory and then cherry-picks evidence to support it, which is how some critics paint him.I won't put "Spoiler Alert" in all caps as usual because it seems Mr. Campbell's opinion on the Earhart disappearance is known. What he does here is an excellent job of supporting his opinion with a mountain of information that is extensively discussed. The evidence presented convinced me, and any objective observer who weighs what is known about Earhart's ill-fated flight has to at least entertain the notion that she and Noonan died on Saipan. There are too many first-hand accounts from different people, told to different interviewers at different times, many with no or little knowledge of others' statements that ended up corroborating their own stories, to ignore. From natives to U.S. military veterans, multitudes of people with nothing to gain - and some, at least in their own minds, with something to lose (natives still fearing the Japanese) - came forward with statements about two Caucasian fliers, one a woman, being in Japanese custody on Saipan in 1937.Most of these sightings specify Saipan, not anywhere else in the extensive Japanese-controlled territory in the pre-war Pacific. Such a happening would, in the context of an isolated island in that era, be something so momentous and unusual that it's no wonder many people would remember it. Also understandable is the natives' fear of the Japanese long after the war was over. While it seems a stretch that none of the photographs mentioned by so many witnesses have ever surfaced, that's the only major curiosity I was left with. Well, and whether the witnesses who stated they saw the Electra were asked whether the plane they saw had any unusual or interesting features. Surely at least some would have mentioned the huge circular antenna protruding from its roof. What I think would be very helpful in a future edition would be for Mr. Campbell to create a timeline showing the what, where, and when of significant events, the evidence and testimony supporting each, the number and names of witnesses, and a few snippets from their statements. If you're interested in the Earhart mystery, read this book and make up your own mind.

Having arrived at this subject matter by way of a recommendation of DC Dave (David Martin), I was a newcomer to the writing of the author Mike Campbell. I believe that Mr. Campbell is one of the most talented and passionate authors of non-fiction I've ever encountered. He really cares a great deal about presenting all of the various points of view, arguments and opinions of the numerous researchers and authors who have attempted to solve this mystery over the past decades. I find this book as the major authoritative compilation or encyclopedia of all previous works on the subject of Amelia Earhart & Fred Noonan. Mr. Campbell is concerned with one primary element, and that is providing the reader with the straight truth. No sugar coating of anything or anyone in this book. There is a tremendous number of persons, dates, locations, and historical facts to keep track of, but throughout this work Mr. Campbell presents the unvarnished truth concerning all. You will have no doubt about what really happened when you finish reading this book.

This book kept me transfixed! The documentation was so thorough and complete, listing every single theory and viewpoint ever voiced in regards to AE's fateful last flight. He does not express his own opinion, but as any genuine researcher who wants to know the truth, he explores every witness testimony, every fact and every trace of thought to allow the reader to see the truth for themselves. The conclusions drawn from such extensive research lead one to see what truly makes the most sense for the time period. It is an amazing book and one I highly recommend. Please know though that this book is so full with each and every detail that you must be ready to focus on the extensive disclosure of names, dates and military data. Not wanting to leave one detail out he has been thorough but that much detail can be challenging to comprehend and facilitate in your mind. So be ready to pack your brain full! Worth every jot and tittle!!

This book gives us a good reason to believe she was a victim of the war and captured by the Japanese and probably died at their hands -- perhaps executed as an American spy along with her navigator. I don't even want to imagine what they did to her while she was held captive. We'll never know for sure how her life ended but this is the best of the books that gives us the best of the possibilities.

...that the US government has been complicit in obfuscating the facts in this case, supporting the theory that FDR feared they would damage his chances for re-election. Politicians who have made determinations as to whom shall be collateral damage in wars or other conflicts live with their consciences, but to be allowed to keep the public ignorant after 80 years seems unconscionable. After reading this compilation of evidence, it's not hard to agree with author Mike Campbell that Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan have been denied their due. Their bravery deserves acknowledgement, if not their heroism.

Mike Campbell seems to have done a very thorough job of collecting evidence concerning the Earhart/Noonan landed in the Marhall Islands and were taken captive by the Japanese theory. I was prepared to pooh pooh this book before I read it, as I have for years believed in the Nikumaroro theory of TIGHAR. But after reading this book, an awful lot of people have to be lying in order to discount all the witness testimony. It would seem on the surface that none of these people had anything to gain by making claims that they personally saw or from second-hand accounts., had evidence of Earhart on Saipan with Fred Noonan. Anyone interested in this mystery should read it and decide for themselves. I guess if TIGHAR should find airplane wreckage below the reef at Niukumaroro, that will answer the question once and for all.

I'm SO glad that the truth of what happened to Amelia Earhart is now known. Author Mike Campbell did a superb job researching this project and validating everything he said and did!!
