About the Author

Steve Bass was born in 1947 in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1965 and holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Pratt Institute, 1970. He received a Master of Arts from the Royal College of Art, London, 1991, where he studied under the direction of Dr. Keith Crichlow and participated in the initial Prince of Wales’ Summer Course in Architecture in 1990. In 1974 he began his architectural practice, which has consisted of a variety of modestly scaled commercial and residential projects, mostly in the New York City area. Since 1992, Steve Bass has taught a variety of classical subjects, focusing on theoretical and practical aspects of proportion at the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art in New York City. From 2006 to 2008, he was Visiting Professor of Architecture at Notre Dame University. Mr. Bass is currently a Fellow of the ICAA, where he continues to teach. He has written for the ICAA journal, The Classicist; for Traditional Building magazine; and for American Arts Quarterly.

These are very high quality manga volumes! So happy to finally have them, they are quite difficult to come by in English. I highly recommend ordering from Right Stuff here on Amazon - they shipped the manga with great care and sold them for a very reasonable price! If you're a Junjou Romantica fan scoop these up before they are gone!

For those of you that are new to the yaoi manga genre, you should be aware that this particular genre of manga has only recently started to be widely translated and published in America; maybe for about the past 10 years - that is not very long ago considering that some of the original manga and anime series were making it over here as early as the 70's. That said, this series, first published in America in 2006, is one of the older yaoi releases that was available at the time.Over the years the Junjo Romantica Series has spawned several books (I think we're headed upwards of #13 at this point) and now has its own drama TV series. So as you can see, things have gone well.The first book has two sets of couples. The main couple revolves around Misaki and Usami (Usagi to his lover and friends = silly Japanese nick-name). Their relationship starts off with a not-so-welcome bang and slowly but surely develops into one of longing and unexpected affection. Don't be fooled though, this series wouldn't have been around for so long if Misaki (the Uke in denial) just caved in and took all the loving that Usagi (a true Seme in every way) had to give...Misaki puts up a good fight (or pretends to) and keeps you laughing at his attempts to convince himself that he's not gay; he just happens to have feeling for and enjoys sex with another man...heh.The second couple in the first few books (1-4 maybe?) is centered around two characters who exist and interact in the same world as Misaki and Usagi. The Uke, Hiroki (Hiro-san to his lover) is older and was childhood friends with Usagi-san. (For those that are familiar with yaoi plot set-ups...childhood friendship is almost always an indicator of potential one-sided love). The Seme, Nowaki, discovers Hiroki crying over his lost love one day and falls for him at first sight...despite being several years younger then Hiro-san Nowaki peruses his interests with the single mindedness of a true Seme (even though he is uneducated and less experienced) and eventually wins over the once frosty heart of Hiroki with his natural warmth and devotion. As this series progresses more characters and couples are added (all within the world of the original main characters), and I have found that I learn to love each pairing for their own reasons.Despite the 'over the top' lifestyle that Usagi has, most of the other characters are down to earth and have to deal with real world problems in their relationships. Nakamura sensei does a very good job of delivering lively and expressive characters. Her plot line for the first book was neither too serious nor was it overly humorous; I'd say it was just perfect for an introductory book to a longer series. As the books progress so does the plot and character development. Although I will say that she is a VERY funny artist and this is reflected in her chibi panels; you'll laugh for sure at some of Misaki's more dramatic reactions - I call them 'angry cat' moments. At the same time some of her panels are done with such grace and maturity that I found myself almost crying along with the characters in the book; the true mark of a good artist.Overall her art is not flowery or 'pretty' in a conventional way, but I enjoy it and have found that over time it has simply become the Nakamura Sensei style that I appreciate in her books. In the earlier books her sex scenes aren't very graphic (nothing you couldn't read on the bus or at the park) but she gets more 'adult themes' oriented in some of the more recently published books. Never fear though...the sexiness is still in the first book and despite not being very graphic it is indeed very mature and smokey! In my opinion she more than makes up for it with her plots and how deeply she can take the reader into the world of the book. As this series progresses you may find that these characters and their relationships really grow on you until you find yourself wanting them to be happy as if they were real people; and that, to me, is the best kind of story. Whether you consider yourself a veteran yaoi collector or are only starting to get into the genre I would urge you to add all of these books (in order...so that you understand all of the progress that's made) to your collection.

Words cannot describe how much I love this manga series! I think it was the very first yaoi anime/manga I'd ever seen. I used to be really uncomfortable with homosexual content on TV or in books or whatever, but then I started reading yaoi and loved it! I'm the kind of girl who'd be annoyed at anything involving romance because of how cheesy and unrealistic the stories are. And I'm still not sure what really caught my interest in this because it's far from reality (maybe because it's because it involves two guys?), but I can't help but enjoy the storyline and the characters in it.It was shipped fast and came in good condition.

Great series! And if you like it, I highly suggest Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi.

I absolutely love this book. I had seen the anime serie, the first and the second season so becouse of that I decided to read the manga. Is better than I tought;is romantic, funny and a little more explicit than the anime but not to much. So if you are a yaoi fan and you like this anime this is the book for you.I recommend 100%.

I love it, I literally order this yesterday and received it today, but the only down part was that I could tell that the manga is used, which I believe it says but it was still in good condition, not brand new but good :) As for the manga it self, if you loved sekai ichi hatsukoi then your going to love junjo romantica, plus I love cute yaoi anime/manga. This is definitely a good read if you want to get into the yaoi (also the anime is fab too.)

I love the story! But the book itself is poorly printed. Some of the words run off the page so I'm unable to read some full sentences. It doesn't make it impossible, but it's just kinda irritating when I have to guess some of what the sentences are saying. The story is great though. It's super cute and I love the art. I wonder if I got a defective book.

This series is so cute and so very yaoi. It follows 3 different couples: Junjo, Egoist and Terrorist. Each couple has its own story and is adorable and fun to read about in its own way. The story flows nicely and it's very easy to read and enjoy. The characters are fleshed-out and easy to understand. There really isn't anything I dislike about this series. I loved it from start to finish and I hope you do too!If you love the manga series, watch the anime!

Well, I'm hooked on Riordan's books, although I prefer the Greek/Roman world to the Egyptian and Norse series. It takes a writer of Riordan's skill to make me interested in following the adventures of Apollo as a human, since he's about the least admirable, most dislikable Olympian in my eyes. Anyway, I enjoyed this, which sets the stage for Apollo's redemption after getting tossed out on his ear, and sets up another new villain for Percy and hopefully, Jason, to join forces with the gods and Save The World - again!

I’m happy about the release of this book, back to Camp Half Blood, and I admit the trip into Norse mythology was fun for a bit, but I’ve grown quite fond of our past protagonists and it was nice to have them back. One thing I would recommend, this book could be read on its own, without reading the others that have come before it, but I wouldn’t. There are some brief summaries of Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter, but it talks about the outcome of those events. Also, the book takes place at the start of Riordian’s last book Magnus Chase, and you know that based on what Annabeth is doing, she’s in Boston.The book has Percy for a bit in it, but then it is primarily focused on Apollo and a new demi-god Meg. Like many of Riordian’s past books, the origins of Meg are a bit of a mystery. Uh, I really have to say, there are some hysterical reference in the book that are not entirely based on the knowledge of children in the normal YA range. Shout-out to a Rocky Horror mention! Anyway, the book is enjoyable to read as all the others and is quick.Apollo is on earth as a mortal, the oracles have stopped prophesizing and there are a lot of tie-in’s to other stories that will emerge in the future, in particular Leo. I was worried that Apollo would annoy me, but his arrogance is amusing, and he has some pretty interesting narratives on his fatherhood, especially being proud of his children’s vanity. As a condition of his time on earth he must serve a demi-God, which is an enjoyable paring to read about and the character of Meg is unique and very strong. There’s still more to learn about her background though, which I am excited for in the future.I don’t want to give too much away, but the new threat is a bit different from the past and pertains to historical figures, not simply the Gods and Goddesses in the traditional sense. The entire story is told from Apollo’s perspective and it’s kind of nice to have on-going pop-culture references, even as recent as Alabama Shakes.I highly recommend it! However, wait to read this after you’ve read the other Percy Jackson books!

I am a fan of Riordan. I enjoy how he takes ancient mythology and relates it to the modern world in a way that intrigues young and older minds alike and inspires kids to learn more about ancient histories and civilizations. This first book of the new Apollo series was much anticipated by both myself and my son (age 12). That anticipation may have been a disservice, however, as the story did not quite meet the high expectations. While the Percy Jackson and the subsequent books brought the reader into this mythological cross-section with relatable characters, Apollo falls short of establishing this relationship. He is frequently far too depressed and, for lack of a better description, whines too much in self pity. While I realize this is an internal struggle for Apollo, it is not so dissimilar to the feelings of inadequacy Percy often felt, yet because of better development, the reader was drawn into Percy's feelings rather than just being annoyed by them. It is never a good thing for the reader to find your main character annoying. I did finish the book and I am hoping Apollo's inner whine struggle will abate, or at least be relatable n the future installments. My son did not finish the book. And that is saying something, as he is an avid reader and huge fan. He easily reads two books a week and loves all the Percy Jackson, Olympian, Roman, Egyptian and Nordic books by Riordan. He was greatly disappointed and would probably disagree with my giving the book three stars. However, I stand by the three stars, admitting this is not Riordan's best work, but the research is excellent, the plot moves sufficiently, he did create characters I care about and he did provide adequate conflict, even if the resolutions were sometimes over simplified. It is an okay read if you are patient enough to get past Apollo being a little too Apollo. I do hope the next book is better, but this one does not leave me in a rush to pre-order it.

This is one of the best books I have read. It was great that Rick kept Apollos arrogance but still made him realize that he had faults. I'm going to be real here and say that I was in tears on multiple occasions.It was also great that he decided to let people like Leo and Calypso have the spot light instead of Percy and Annabeth. I was laughing so hard and some parts, I almost fell off the chair I was sitting on.This is a book that you are going to want to read and will keep you on the edge of your toes waiting for the next one.
