I recently purchased a house and have a few major remodelling projects in que. Recently, I've spend so much time and energy dealing with difficult major remodeling store associates. I wish I have read this book months ago. This book provides great insights into remodeling myths and is an organized how-to guide for anyone preparing for a remodeling project. I especially found helpful the sections on how to interview remodelers for your project. As a first time home buyer this information was extremely helpful. Now I have the confidence that I won't go broke remodeling the rest of my house.

I am an avid Pinterest user for my crafts and recipes. I can see myself using this site alot.The elevator pitch: Although I wouldn't really call the clear concise statement of what you are looking for, an elevator speech, it was an apt analogy and I get the point.The use of a needs list is one of the best tips-- Do you need it or do you want it? big differenceWish lists and budgeting rounded out the things you need to think about.Personally I felt the budgeting chapter was worth the price of the book alone. Speaking from experience, I really liked how the author walked me through all the budget considerations because there were plenty of things I didn't even think about-- which is the premise of the book.Chapter 13 Defining your project has a section on Functions and Features which really go my creative juices flowing. This was hands down my favorite chapter in the book. I found myself wandering around my house, e-book in hand, thinking about what could be better all throughout the house.The tips on tile designers was helpful as I embark on fixing my bathroom.The funny thing is that by the time I got to the section on contracts and interviewing I decided that I want to add a deck!I feel like I can go into my projects confidently and much more aware of what is involved and what to watch out for.A big thank you to Jim Molinelli!
If you are like me, your past build/remodeling projects have been a mixed bag. Even with the best concept I've had mixed results like floors that bounced as you walked on them and leaks due to bad construction choices. And don't get me started on the time we had to redesign our new kitchen because the new basement stairs didn't comply with local building codes!Clearly, having a great design isn't enough.
