The series Chains, Forge, and Ashes by Laurie Halse Anderson were all terrific books according to my 12 year old grandson. He is studying American history this year, and once he read Chains couldn't wait to read the other two. After he read them, his history teacher said she would give extra credit to anyone who read any of these books. She was surprised and pleased that he had read them already. So he will get lots of extra credit for reading all three and he did it just because he really enjoyed them.

This historical novel, the last of the trilogy, shows the ending of the Revolutionary War and reunites the characters. It is beautifully written, an exciting page-turner, a flowering romance, and a descriptive view of the chaos of war. The Appendix holds a wealth of historical information. As a word lover, I enjoyed the Glossary. I hope middle graders and their teachers will enjoy reading ASHES as much as I did and gain insights and knowledge about this great historical event that are not sugar-coated and that paint slavery for what it was, a stain on our democracy.

These three books, Chains, Forge, and Ashes, tell the stories about our Revolution than are seldom heard but which were not uncommon. The stories are often cruel and uncomfortable to hear, but are necessary for us to heed and to learn from.Although written with Young Adults in mind; I am a senior citizen and I very much enjoyed these superbly-written books and recommend them to all.

This was a wonderful ending to the trilogy of books about two slaves fighting a war for their freedom during the American Revolution. It follows two young slaves Curzon and a girl he affectionately calls Country. It is a book that calls into question how blurry the lines were during this war. It also calls into question the irony that many were fighting for their "freedom" from the British when many people fighting owned slaves or were fighting alongside those that didn't have "freedom". As a slave it was hard to tell who to fight with or what they were fighting for. Very thought provoking and well written two needful book for middle schoolers and beyond.

This is the final book in the: "Seeds of America" series. Set in 1781 and narrated by Isabel; Anderson getsup close and personal having Isabel and Curzon right in the middle of the final confrontation between the Britishand Rebel armies.I highly recommend the reading the entire series; especially for fans of the Tony Award winning musical: "Hamilton."Another novel to address this issue is: Octavian of Nothing.

Such a wonderful third book to a tremendous series about the Revolutionary war as seen through the eyes of Slaves caught up in the misery and suspense of surviving the war. Wonderful way to teach about the experience of persons of color, their thoughts, hopes and fears for social studies.

The author helps us see the beginnings of this country and the Revolutionary war from the perspective of the slaves that were being sold, kept and forced to give up their freedom for the betterment of their owners in light of war's objective of gaining freedom from Britain.

The final book in the Seeds of America trilogy was well worth the wait. Laurie Halse Anderson takes us back to the Revolutionary War days as America fought for its freedom. I loved meeting up with Isabel and Curzon as they searched for their freedom and Ruth. It was like catching up with old friends as Isabel and Curzon fight for freedom and peace within their own hearts.A perfect ending to the trilogy, but I already miss them and their journey!

Mi pareja y yo disfrutamos de cada página jaja.

I have read a lot of self help books over the years.I could not put this one down. I don't remember the last time I read a book so fast. It was as though the author was describing my childhood and my feelings better than I ever could. Reading this book and having my feelings validated gave me so much strength and made me lighter. I have also found the author's you tube videos very helpful.Since reading this book I have contacted the author . She is an amazing life coach and has made a big difference in my life.She is simply amazing !

When I started reading this book, at times I felt like I was reading my own story—not necessarily the circumstances or events but the feelings the author was communicating. I also grew up in a home where I was not allowed to be myself. I was compared to others, my opinions were mocked, I couldn’t just be myself. I did not feel loved, accepted, or valued by my parents. Her depiction of her marriage mirrored mine (our husbands could be twins), and I could identify with everything she expressed with regard to that relationship.However, I was shocked and surprised when the book ended abruptly. I was expecting it to offer more strategies, advice, or even personal testimony on how to overcome codependency. There was none of that—just a nod to her counselor Ed and author Melody Beattie (Codependent No More). I was disappointed that she essentially brought us to her place of healing, growth, and recovery but did not describe how that happened for her.

They say you have to hit rock bottom before you admit you have a problem.I was searching for an explanation for my empty feelings and failed relationships. Lisa bares her soul to help us understand why we hurt so much. I couldn't put the book down. I appreciate her candor and desire to help wounded spirits. Watch her amazing videos on You Tube. It is about recovery from relationship addiction, food addiction, anxiety, and constant fear" This is a very misleading book description.I very much enjoy Romano in her youtube videos and was hoping this book would be split between her own expereinces, but then offer more in the way of tools towards recovery. This is pretty much just reading her life story. Of course it's touching at times, and I absolutely cried at similarities with my own experiences or at what she had to endure. But don't purchase this book if your looking for anything other than her story.The book is padded by about 40 blank pages.

The Road Back to Me really brought me back to my childhood. Something necessary for healing childhood wounds as an adult. It triggered memories that I had long forgotten. For example, I was able to recall my relationship with neighborhood friends, what I did for fun as a child, how I felt as a child, how I felt in school when so and so did this.... how it felt to live in my childhood home with my family. And this book brought me back to get in touch with "feelings" in order to help me recover more of my innocent child self... My true essence.It's amazing how this book could take you back to relating with your parents, friends, classmates, and teachers. I really appreciated how The Road Back to Me brought back memories of things I loved to do but forgot as I grew up into an adult with tons of responsibilities. It gave me closure as well. I did the best I could, my parents did the best they could. Seeing Lisa overcome her struggles provides hope to those who may be stuck in unhealthy patterns. This book is essential to healing childhood wounds! Yes, it was a soulful journey reading The Road Back to Me.After reading this book, I contacted Lisa A Romano to be my coach. I have grown leaps and bounds in my relationship so fast. I didn't know I had choices. Growing up as an Acoa, I didn't have a voice. Reading Road Back to Me helped me remember the way I was treated. It gave me awareness into why I give so much to others and give to myself last... I always had to take care of everyone else so I would be safe. I was able to bring up old feelings and release them so I could heal. I recommend this book for anyone who is struggling in their adult life to please others. Now I'm choosing my own road.

I seldom write reviews but I must say, the revelations I found in Road Back to Me, granted not only a letter to the author but and Amazon review. If you have struggled with codependency feelings of unworthiness or feeling invisible, I highly recommend this book. The Road back to me is Lisa Story, it is not a how-to manual. I read it after watching her amazing video blog on Youtube (highly recommend it). I sobbed reading parts of Lisa’s story, as she captures so well the feelings of powerlessness that we experience as children, when our well-meaning but imperfect parents try to teach us how to live. This is not about victim-hood or blame, but about learning to honor our own experience as human beings. In a world that tries to convince us that our feelings aren’t real; Lisa shines a bright light on our right to be seen, heard and recognized as the divine and precious creatures we are. Thank Lisa, you have changed my life.
