Review
“The 160-page book is a comprehensive, well-written, helpfully illustrated (with 90 color photos and more than three-dozen maps) and wholly user-friendly guide to Houston-area waterways and the paddling opportunities available on them . . . It illuminates the abundance and diversity of wonderful waterways within easy reach of Houstonians, clears for them a path to the water and gives prospective paddlers the tools they need to discover for themselves the value of these places.”—Shannon Tompkins, Houston Chronicle (Shannon Tompkins Houston Chronicle 2013-07-03)

I would have to spend hours online researching the information that's in this book. The sections are nicely laid out. There are beautiful full color photos and maps and lots of helpful information on each location including accessibility, put-in options, hazards, fees, etc. If you enjoy kayaking or canoeing in and around the Houston area...even occasionally...this book is indispensable.
I bought this book when some friends bought kayaks and were looking for places to go. Houston has many navigitable water ways and bayous that are never crowded. You would be hard pressed to find all the information included in this book in one place on the net. Its a great buy from a local author if you live in or around Houston and lawn a canoe or kayak.
I was looking for a book that would highlight places to go with a canoe/kayak, with information on boat launches/put-ins, details on the routes, and general location maps. This book has these things and more. This is a wonderful guide!
Exactly what I needed.
Not just for paddlers, this has great descriptions of bayous and rivers.
This book is full of great information for paddling the Houston and surrounding areas. It is a much needed resource.
I bought this for my G son who lives in Houston , he is a very outdoors person, let you know more after he tries out the book
The Houston area has a huge number of stunningly beautiful places to paddle within an hours drive of downtown. Whether you are interested in cypress swamps, wide or narrow bayous through beautiful forests, salt or fresh water marshes, open bays, or lakes Houston has it. This is by far the best book to get you to all these wonderful places. The book has excellent maps and directions to the best spots and includes descriptions of the paddle routes and what you will find there plus lots of great pictures. I have been paddling the Houston area extensively for the last 5 years and have found many places in the book to which I have never been. I highly recommend this book to both novices and experienced paddlers.
